Choosing an AI answer sheet checker.
There are a dozen of these in India now and their websites are nearly identical. This page is how to tell them apart, written by one of them — so read it with that in mind, and use the test at the bottom instead of taking anyone’s word for it.
The short version. Ignore the accuracy percentages. Run the same real paper through two or three tools, compare their marks to your own, and look hardest at what each one does with the answers it could not read. That takes an afternoon and tells you more than every feature list put together.
Why the websites all look the same
Because the underlying capability arrived at roughly the same time for everyone. Reading handwriting from a phone photograph stopped being the hard part a couple of years ago. What is left to differentiate on is unglamorous: how much setup a teacher has to do, what happens on a bad scan, whether a mark can be explained, and whether the thing is still being used in the third month.
None of that photographs well, so none of it is on the homepages.
What the accuracy numbers mean
You will see 95%, 98%, “98% rubric accuracy”. Before those mean anything, ask three questions:
- Accuracy at what? Reading the handwriting and awarding the mark are different jobs. A tool can transcribe a page perfectly and still mark it badly.
- On whose handwriting? A figure from clean, well-lit scans of diligent students tells you nothing about the back row of your Class 11 batch.
- Against whose marking? Two teachers marking the same paper routinely differ. “Agrees with the examiner” requires saying which examiner.
We do not publish an accuracy figure, for the reason above: the only number that would mean anything to you comes from your own papers.
The questions that actually separate these tools

| Do I have to write the marking scheme? | Typing a rubric per question is fine for the demo paper and fatal by the third test. Some tools build it from your question paper; some need it typed every time. |
| What happens on an unreadable page? | The single most revealing question. A tool that always returns a mark has hidden its uncertainty rather than removed it. |
| Can I see why it gave that mark? | Without the evidence behind a mark you cannot check it quickly, and you certainly cannot defend it to a parent. |
| Who releases the marks? | If anything but a teacher can release a mark to a student, that is a product decision you will eventually regret. |
| How do sheets get in? | Phone photos by students, or staff scanning in one pass. Which one fits depends on your centre, and getting it wrong is the usual reason these projects die. |
| What is the second month like? | Anything works for one paper. Ask to speak to a customer who has run five. |
| Where do the papers live afterwards? | Student answer sheets are children’s personal data. Ask where they are stored, for how long, and whether they train anything. |
Working out which shape you need
The market splits roughly three ways, and they suit different places:
- University-scale tools built for large institutions with an IT department and an annual licence. Strong on scale, heavy on setup. Gradescope is the best known.
- Full institute platforms where checking is one module beside fees, attendance and analytics. Sensible if you are replacing everything at once, slower to get value from if you are not.
- Checking-first tools where a single teacher can run one batch’s papers this week without anyone else being involved. That is where we sit.

The test to run
Take a paper your students have already written and you have already marked. Not a sample, not a clean scan — a real one, including the worst handwriting in the batch. Put it through two or three tools. Then compare:
- How far each tool’s marks sit from yours, question by question.
- What each did with the answers it could not read. Silence or invention is the thing to catch.
- How long you spent checking its work. That, not the marking, is your real ongoing cost.
