A school’s checking problem is not weekly. It arrives three or four times a year, all at once, across every section and every subject, at exactly the point in the calendar when nobody has any time.

Why a school is a different job from a coaching centre

In a coaching centre a teacher owns one batch and can decide to try something on Sunday. A school has sections, subject departments, a common paper across a whole standard, and marks that feed a report card the office prints. The workflow has to fit that, or it gets used once and abandoned.

Three practical differences shape how this runs in a school:

• Staff scan, students do not photograph. Sheets are collected the way they always are, and whoever is at the desk puts them through in one pass. No student has to install anything, no parent has to be told anything, and nobody is chasing a Class 9 student for a photograph.
• One paper, many sections. The same question paper marked across every section means the marking scheme is derived once, and the comparison between sections is available for free — which is usually the first thing a head of department actually wants.
• The marks have to leave the system. Question-wise marks export for whatever the office uses to produce report cards.

What the head of department sees

Not a total. A grid of which questions each section got wrong — so a conversation about why 11-B collapsed on the same three-mark derivation that 11-A handled can happen in the week of the test, rather than in a review meeting in April.

The part schools ask about first

Whose marks are they? The teacher’s. Software prepares the marking, flags what it was unsure of, and quotes the words on the sheet behind every mark. The subject teacher approves before anything reaches a student or a report card, and there is no configuration that removes that step.

That matters more in a school than anywhere else, because a mark on a report card is a document a family will act on. Our view on where this technology should and should not be trusted is in how the checking works, written out in full.

Where the papers live

Answer sheets are children’s personal data and are treated as such: stored for your school only, never shared, never sold, never used to train anything, and deleted after checking. Our privacy policy sets out the detail, including the DPDP position on parental consent.

Getting 2,400 pages in

Before you send us anything

A real paper we marked is published in full — six pages of ordinary Class 9 handwriting, all eighteen answers, and the marks exactly as they came back.

Common questions

Who owns the student data?

The school does. ClassPulse holds it on the school's instructions and does not use it for anything else — that is written into the privacy policy, not just promised here. It matters more than usual in a school: almost every student is a minor, and the DPDP Act treats children's data as a separate category with its own consent requirements.

Do teachers lose control of the marking?

No, and the product will not let them. No mark reaches a student until a teacher approves it, and there is no setting that turns that off. What changes is what a teacher spends the evening doing: reading and adjusting eighteen drafted comments per student instead of writing them.

How long does a unit test cycle take to check by hand?

Six sections of forty, a ten-page paper, is 2,400 pages. At a realistic four minutes a page that is 160 teacher-hours, which is why unit test results reach parents a fortnight late in most schools. The calculator will do the sum for your own numbers.

What happens to a page the system cannot read?

It is handed back with the page named and the question left unmarked, for a teacher to mark by hand. It is not guessed at and not silently zeroed. The most common cause is not bad handwriting — it is a page photographed sideways, or an answer written on a different page from the question.
