The checking problem in Patna is shaped by scale and by language. Sections are big, a great many students write in Hindi, and the same faculty member frequently marks the Hindi-medium and English-medium copies for the same paper.

Hindi-medium copies are not an afterthought here

Handwritten Devanagari is read directly rather than transliterated and guessed at, and the way students actually write — a Hindi explanation carrying English technical terms — is ordinary input, not an edge case.

Why the turnaround matters at scale

The larger the section, the longer the gap between writing a test and getting it back, and the less any of it teaches. A student who sees their mistake the same evening learns from it. The same student, handed the same paper ten days later, reads the total and puts it in a bag — and the centre has paid for all of the teaching either way.
